he new West Belleville entry marker signaled the beginning of a series of improvements to the West End and a new chapter in the community's history.

 

 

 

 

 

A new city streetscape has also been developed, transforming the appearance of West Main Street giving it a new parkway look.  The new look includes decorative lighting, new sidewalks, and planters.

 

 

 

 

Achievements of the Committee:

To date the West Belleville Committee has accomplished the following initiatives:

  • Encouraged the City of Belleville to take a stronger position on city-wide nuisance laws

  • Promote our community through street banners and summer socials

  • The decoration and installation of the “The Wall” at 9600 West Main Street…Corporate sponsorships have been instrumental in the completion of this project
  • The encouragement of area businesses to initiate beautification projects and the actual planting of flowers in new and existing area planters.
  • Statue placements
  • West Belleville’s participation in April 19, 2008 City Clean-Up

Originally South St. Louis City natives, Ann and Steve Bachmann saw what West Belleville had to offer.  "When we decided to make the move to Illinois, we searched for about two years - checking out towns such as Edwardsville and O'Fallon.  After seeing what West Belleville had to offer, we decided that we liked the small town feel and its close proximity to St. Louis.  We also like the community support and collaboration of the local schools and churches."
