"For well over
20 years I practiced law in the West End of Belleville, in
the same building on West Main where my son is continuing to
practice law. It was the perfect location: it was
still close to downtown St. Louis, to inter-connecting
highways to Madison County, to many of my clients in East
St. Louis and to the court house in downtown Belleville.
In a span of 30 blocks or so on West Main one can get
clothes cleaned or buy clothes (at
Don Rodgers, for example),
get a good bottle of wine and a special hunk of cheese at
the Cheesekeeper, or sip a brew at some of the local pubs.
There are law offices, insurance agencies, dog trimmers and
all manner of assorted businesses waiting to serve the West
End population. The good part is that all of these
things come without towering, crowded office buildings and
without the constant honking of horns and general turmoil
that comes with many over-crowded cities."
